Louise Fletcher, who won an Oscar for playing the sadistic Nurse Mildred Ratched in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, has died at 88.
claimed that no cause of death was disclosed, but that her family made the announcement through agent David Shaul.
Shaul claims that Fletcher notified her family soon before she passed away and that she died at the home she built in Montdurausse, France.
Prior to starring in movies, she began her acting career in TV shows including Maverick, The Untouchables, and 77 Sunset Strip.
Fletcher, who was raised by deaf parents and was born in Birmingham, Alabama, spoke at the Oscars using sign language.
She had regular roles on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as well as guest performances in Joan of Arcadia and Picket Fences, which earned her Emmy nods in 1996 and 2004, respectively.
Jerry Bick, a movie producer, and Fletcher were married from 1959 until their divorce in 1977. The couple had two sons, John and Andrew Bick.
