Grey's Anatomy's devastating fall finale sees Meredith House burn to death

The Grey's Anatomy fall finale was not for the weak of heart. On Thursday's episode, a lightning storm may have completely destroyed the home that Dr. Meredith Gray and her late husband, Dr. Derek Shepherd, shared.

The disastrous moment occurs when lightning strikes the house with the children of Maggie (Kelly McCreery), Winston (Anthony Hyil) and Meredith.

"It's just stuff," Meredith told her kids, as they watched their stuff go up in flames.

The only physical object to make it through the fire was the Post-It note on which Meredith and Derek had married all those years earlier.

It's no surprise that a lot went down Thursday night. When ET's Deidre Behr spoke to Camilla Luddington before the episode, she warned that viewers might want to get out of work after watching the drama.

"I think the general rule should always be that if we have a midseason finale, you shouldn't be at work [the next] day.

It must be just an automated call out sick," she said. "...just call sick. When have we ever had a midseason finale that swam well? it's not gonna happen. No."

As far as the sweet gesture of Lynx giving Joe clothes for her daughter, the actress teased that this could be the start of a budding romance between longtime friends.

"I think the link is over [his ex] Amelia (Katrina Scorsone). He needed to go through that breakup. Which has moved on.
