Dempsey: 'Disappointed' is an escape from dark-themed movies

Actor Patrick Dempsey knows the world can be a dark place, and many of the TV streaming options these days are even dark.

The November 18 release of "Disappointed" comes 15 years after "Charmed". The two sing Amy Adams as the cheerful, Giselle, who falls in love with a lawyer played by Dempsey.

He said that during his recent visits he was disappointed with the heavy, black-themed entertainment options. "Do I really want to be in this dark movie right now?

I just want to escape the realities of the world, not listen to the news, stay away from social media and watch something."

Oddly, "Disappointed" has a darker theme than the original as Giselle's life is turned upside down.

"But it's done in a mild way, and hopefully, in a way that can distract and entertain," he said.

The Maine native is on a roll to play race car driver Piero Taruffi in writer/director Michael Mann's "Ferrari" biopic, set to be released late next year. Adam Driver will star as Enzo Ferrari.

Real-life race car driver Dempsey said he did all the driving himself. “It is the best role I have ever played. It is fantastic,” he said.

Dempsey spoke Wednesday to visit the School of Ecology in Saco, Maine, which aims to change the way people think about nature through practical, experiential learning.
